Their mission statement is "To contribute to the preservation of Zambia’s Natural heritage, ecosystem and biological diversity for present and future generations through the careful conservation of Zambia’s wildlife.”

Furthermore, ZAWA's primary objectives are:

1. To improve the quality of the life among communities in wildlife estates and maintenance
of sustainable biodiversity in national parks and game management areas;
2. To reverse the decline in wildlife resources;
3. To improve wildlife resource management to a level which will secure sustainable flow of
benefits from the resources; and
4. To considerably improve the wildlife resource base investment in co-operation with the
private sector and local communities.

Here are the general acceptable standards to be maintained at every Safari Hunting Camp in Zambia, as stated by ZAWA:

1. One set of communications radio.
2. 2 x 4 wheel drive vehicles.
3. One deep freezer.
4. One refrigerator.
5. Solar / Gas lamps.
6. Hurricane lamps.
7. 4 self contained chalets; flush toilet and shower.
8. Minimum of 10 beds. 10 mattresses and linen.
9. Each chalet should have:
2 mirrors
2 flasks
2 bath towels
2 face towels
10. Cutlery and crockery for 10 persons.
11. 10 dining chairs, 1 dining table and 10 camp chairs.
12. 2 gas bottles
13. 10 mosquito nets.
14. 2 pressing irons.
15. 2 water filters.
16. A minimum of 15 personnel as follows:
2 cooks
2 waiters
2 trackers
2 skinners
2 drivers
2 water attendants
1 tent attendant
1 professional hunter
1 apprentice professional hunter
17. Adequate supply of food and drinks.
18. Adequate supply of fuel and lubricants.
19. Two tents for a fly camp.
20. First Aid Box.
21. Trophy tags.
22. Baiting wire.
23. 2 fire extinguishers.
24. A set of tools.
